LCH conducted a 12month demonstration project with one of the largest student accommodation providers in the UK.
Objectives of the 12 mth project were to demonstrate:
▪Effectiveness of Radiant heating vs Convective heating
▪Benefits to the students with a less ‘stuffy’ environment
▪Benefits to the building with automatically controlled temperature & humidity
▪Cost & Carbon savings of the LCH panels vs electric heaters
▪Cost & Carbon savings of the LCH intelligent centrally controlled system
▪Comparison against a same size footprint flat installed with new energy efficient electric heaters and 2hr manual boost on/off control
▪Comparison against Flats with traditional electric heaters
Results
The project has demonstrated:
▪Effectiveness of Radiant heating vs Convective heating
▪Much easier to control and manage
▪Students commenting on how much better the air quality is and much less ‘stuffy’
▪Visualising of energy data brings behavioural changes
▪Potential for Energy League tables for students – raising further awareness
▪Cost & Carbon savings of the LCH panels & intelligent centrally controlled system vs electric heaters
▪Easily visible and quantified savings – 47% heating saving on average per student
▪Comparable against smaller flats with older electric heaters with half the amount of student occupancy.
