The LCH Team
Low Carbon Heat Ltd (LCH) has a background in selling other manufacturers’ infrared heating panels, electric storage heaters and wet based heating systems.
The team has extensive knowledge of buildings, building fabrics, energy and heating requirements for those environments. The team had also sold and installed other manufacturers heating control units so has very good experience of the marketplace for electric heating systems across multiple sectors
With LCH’s work in the housing sector and the rules that no newbuild properties can have gas boilers after 2025 they could see the acceleration of electric heating being needed and rolled out.
The technology being recommended by most companies was electric heat pumps, which requires invasive & costly installs including different radiator sizes to gas-fired heating. There are also very different operating/running methods than running a standard boiler which if misunderstood nearly always results in higher energy usage or cold environments.
LCH soon realised that for the retrofit social housing sector, domestic heat pumps are not the solution as they left tenants with higher energy bills and carbon footprints. Also, storage heaters and electric radiators had proven to be inefficient and not provide the heat required at the required times at a low enough energy level.
Infrared heating was also a relatively new technology but poorly designed products often required 2-3 kWp per room per hour of electricity to heat, again, pushing the electricity bills up for tenants who are already living in fuel poverty.
It is for this reason the team experimented with many different types of carbon-based, heating elements, panel types & controls to design & invent a heating panel solution that could achieve the maximum heat at the lowest power output.
